The Wrocław Airport on the path to sustainable development

At Wroclaw Airport, we have been proudly implementing the principles of sustainable development and responsible management for many years, in line with international ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) standards. Our participation in the ESG initiative is not only a responsibility but, above all, a conscious decision that reflects our values and commitment to acting responsibly for the environment, communities, and ethical governance.

The Idea of ESG
ESG emerged from the need to create responsible business practices on a global scale, and its implementation aligns with EU regulations and directives, such as the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive).

This directive imposes a requirement on businesses to report in detail on the impact of their activities on the environment, social responsibility, and management transparency.

Previous Actions and Planned Initiatives

We have taken initiatives on our own initiative, even before the requirements of the directive became mandatory.

  • We save energy and water by implementing solutions that increase operational efficiency.
  • We care for the natural environment, conducting activities in harmony with local fauna and flora.
  • We apply humane methods to minimize the impact of our activities on animals and their natural habitats.

In the coming years, we will focus on specific goals set by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which reflect key areas of our airport operations.

Our ESG Priorities:

1. Goal 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure:

Our priority is to ensure the highest level of safety in aviation operations, encompassing both flight protection and the safety of all users of airport infrastructure. This involves three key aspects:

  • Operational Safety
  • Protection Against Acts of Unlawful Interference
  • Cybersecurity

2. Goal 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities:

Our key objective in achieving Goal 11 is to support the sustainable development of the urban space around the airport and minimize the negative impact of airport activities on the surrounding environment.

Priorities in this area include:

  • Noise Management around the Airport
  • Sustainable Use of Water Resources
  • Improvement of Air Quality
  • Biodiversity and Greenery Protection
  • Effective Waste Management

3. Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth:

Our priority is to create a responsible and supportive workplace that promotes the well-being of employees and supports their professional development. As part of this goal, we focus on the following priorities:

  • Support for Employee Health and Safety
  • Professional Development of Staff
  • Promoting Work-Life Balance
  • Employee Consultation and Engagement

4. Goal 13 – Climate Action:

As part of our commitment to Goal 13 – Climate Action, our mission is to take decisive steps to protect the climate and minimize the negative impact of our activities on the environment. In this regard, we focus on the following priorities:

  • Adaptation to Climate Change
  • Reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
  • Implementation of Innovative Climate Solutions
  • Climate Education
